This piece reflects on a young Lagos-born Idoma's journey from viewing his heritage through superficial markers to discovering its true depth. Growing up, Adakole saw his identity merely through language and traditional foods, disconnected from authentic Idoma traditions. Through a conversation with his village-dwelling cousin about "Things Fall Apart," he uncovers the complex age-grade system and communal practices that define their culture. Now, their dialogue serves as a testament to preserving cultural knowledge for future urban-dwelling Idoma youth.
